Nature Trails

Hadrian’s Wall

The Hadrian’s Wall Path is a footpath in the North East of England, which runs for 84 miles, from Wallsend on the East coast to Bowness-on-Solway on the West Coast. It is a long distance path, which became the 15th National Trail in 2003. The most photographed area of Northumberland’s National Park resides here – Steel Rigg and Sycamore Gap – a Sycamore Tree within the dip of 2 hills right next to Hadrian’s Wall, which is most famously captured in the 1991 film Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. Although it is a walk, Green Mountain Travel is well equipped with buses for hire, so you can arrive at the start of this momentous walk, with all of your gear intact. Northumberlandia

Northumberlandia, commonly known as ‘The Lady of the North’ is a huge land sculpture located near Cramlington, which is 9 miles North of Newcastle, in the county of Northumberland. Made of 1.5 million tonnes of earth, 34-metre highs and 400 metres long, Northumberlandia was created in the shape of a reclining female figure and was completed in 2012. Everything was collected from Shotton Surface Mine to create the piece. A beautifully scenic walk, set within a 46-acre park, which is open to the public. She is a living part of the Northumberland countryside, which will mature throughout time. Take a drive down and explore this stunning piece in person!

Angel of the North

The Angel of the North is a local masterpiece and has also become one of the most talked about public works of Art to ever be created. Designed by Antony Gormley, the Angel is 20 metres tall and her wings span 54 metres across! She overlooks the Northumbrian countryside and is a local landmark for knowing when you are ‘home’ in the North East. The Angel of the North is open to the public every day of the year!
